Home Education: Beginning at Church

At Emmanuel Independent Baptist Church we recognize the effort and value of home school education as a means for providing Christian training for young people. That's one of the reasons you'll find a large support group of Christian home educators who are members of EIBC. We believe that Christian education should continue from Sunday to Sunday and that the Bible teaches that the oversight of a child's training is the parent's responsibility. Home schooling provides an opportunity that can be rich in nurturing children in knowledge, wisdom, and biblical understanding that they will need and use for life. But just as God entrusts the care and training of children to parents, He entrusts the discipling and training of the Christian to the local church.

Unfortunately, there are some home schooling parents that endeavor to provide their children with an education that is Christian in content, but they refuse to join themselves to a local Bible believing church even denying their children's attendance to such. The New Testament clearly teaches that the Church is God's intended place for believers to be assembled. The Lord Jesus Christ is the head of the Church; She is His bride and She is His creation.

Consider the following verses:

I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. —Jesus Christ (Matt. 16:18)

Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. —Acts 2:41

And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. —Heb. 10:24-25

Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write —Rev. 2:1

And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write —Rev. 2:8

And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write —Rev. 2:12

And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write —Rev. 2:18

And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write —Rev. 3:1

And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write —Rev. 3:7

And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write —Rev. 3:14

The churches referred to in the quotations from Acts, Hebrews, and Revelation were local assemblies of Christian believers. They baptized believers. They observed the Lord's table. They had ordained pastors and chosen deacons, and they received instruction, encouragement, and for some even rebuke, from the Lord. The New Testament teaching places the responsibility of administering believer's baptism, the Lord's table, the discipline of the believer, and exhortation towards love and good works to be under the ministry of the local church.

If you are a home school parent, but you are not attending a local Bible believing church, we invite you to attend Emmanuel Independent Baptist Church in Clay Center, Kansas. Being in obedience to the Scriptures is the best character education that you can give your children.
